Hello! My name is Essi. I’m a fourth-year student majoring in Global Development Studies.

I moved to Kingston from Accra, Ghana, for school. Born in Lomé, Togo, my family and I have lived in many countries, but I consider both Ghana and Togo to be my home. Being an Equity Ambassador is a role where we equip high school students to transition to life at Queen’s, connect them with resources, and bridge their access to higher education. Equity Ambassadors are a resource I wish I had when I first came to Queen’s. One of the best parts of the position is knowing that my university experience can, and will, help others.

Favourite thing about Queen's:

Some of my favorite things about Queen's is the variety of extracurricular activities available, such as the International Centre through which I have been able to make friends, and the Dunin-Despande Queen's Innovation Centre which works to support entrepreneurs.

Advice/Tip for incoming first year students:

If I were to give one piece of advice to first years; do not be so tough on yourself about keeping a friend you made from first year. You will not necessarily stay in contact with everyone you meet because relationships change, and people grow. Just as you are learning more about yourself so are all the people you will meet.
