July Update

Hello QWA members:

I hope you are well, keeping safe, and coping with the heat and humidity.  It is my pleasure to provide you with this update.

QWA’s new home at 187A King Street West is coming together … slowly but surely.  Our Queen's contact for upgrades and repairs is helpful and accommodating.  Many of the Queen's gardeners spent a day cleaning up the grounds: hedges trimmed back, weeds removed, bushes and small trees professionally pruned, etc. The grounds look amazing!  The roof and deck upgrades and repairs will be actioned in the Fall.

May House Update

Dear QWA Members:

I hope you are coping as well as can be expected with the self-isolation.  I am fortunate to be able to garden and keep in touch with family – thanks to technology.

I want to share with you the progress we have made with respect to our new venue (187A King Street West).  Due to the pandemic which has shut down all of Queen’s, our move-in date is not known.  We would expect it to be late May or sometime in June, but thus far we are in a ‘waiting’ state.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Shirley Brooks-Purkis on January, 23 2020.

Stephanie Deutsch

Dear Members,

We are saddened by the news of Stephanie's passing and are happy that we hosted a luncheon in her honour on the occasion of her 100th birthday.  Stephanie was an active member of QWA long after she was Honorary President.  She loved bridge and played long after experiencing reduced eyesight.  We were able to have 144 Albert Street as our home largely due to Stephanie's persuasive talents. We will miss her acerbic humour.

Stephanie's obituary follows. Click on the link below.
