Sue Blake , Assistant Dean (Studies), Faculty of Arts and Science, Queen’s, will discuss her decision to make a lateral move within Queen’s in order to advance her career.

When considering your next career move, don't discount the lateral move. Just like chess, sometimes sideways is the best move to get you to where you eventually want to go.

A lateral move can offer advantages like: making you more marketable; allowing you to work with a better boss or supervisor; increasing your visibility; facilitating work-life balance; building your network; and exploring opportunities for advancement.
