Spring 2023 Convocation

On May 26 and from June 20 to 23, Queen's University is proud to welcome members of the Spring 2023 graduation class back to Kingston to celebrate Convocation.

All Applications for Graduation are made through the SOLUS Student Centre.

Please note that completion of an application to graduate does not guarantee the awarding of a degree.

May 26, 2023 Ceremony Details

 

ROAD CLOSURE

Please note that Union Street will be closed to all traffic between University Avenue and Fifth Field Company Lane during the ceremony at Grant Hall on May 26.

Those travelling to the Queen's Campus via Sir John A Macdonald Boulevard from the 401 can use an alternate route of King Street West (turn left), then Lower University Avenue (turn left) to Stuart Street.

Those travelling to the Queen's Campus via  Division Street from the 401 will arrive on the east side of the main campus and can access areas closer to Grant and Kingston Halls via Union Street (turn left), then Barrie Street (turn right) to Stuart Street (turn right).

 

The May 26, 2023 ceremony is only for Spring 2023 Graduates in the following programs:

  • Medicine (MD)
  • Master of Business Administration - Americas (MBAC)

For all other programs and graduating years, please refer to the ceremony schedules by faculty and program below for your convocation date, and the June ceremony information for your ceremony venue and details.

  • Venue: Grant Hall (doors open at 8:30 am)
  • Graduate arrival time: Kingston Hall at 8:00 am
  • Ceremony start time: 10 am
  • Guest seating limit: Three (3) per graduate
    • Viewing Room available for additional guests in Kingston Hall, Room 101
    • Graduates must confirm invited guest numbers via SOLUS by May 12
    • Tickets: No physical tickets will be issued. Guests will be checked in at the venue
  • Special accommodations for graduates and/or guests: If a graduate or a guest attending Convocation has an accessibility need, seating can be reserved by completing our online form
  • Hood and Gown Rentals: Online preorders can be placed via the Gaspard/AMS 'Build A Grad' portal for this ceremony from January 13 to May 5 at 11:50 pm EST. Same-day ordering will be available, subject to higher prices

  • Diploma Frame Sales: All your hard work and dedication has paid off.  Be ready to showcase your diploma with pride in an official Queen’s frame.

June Ceremony Venue, Arrival, and Details

All June 2023 ceremonies will be held at the Leon's Centre. 

Graduates:

  • Please arrive 2 hours prior to the ceremony start time (for ceremonies that begin at 10 am, arrive by 8 am. For 3 pm ceremonies, arrive by 1 pm)
  • There will be lots of standing – we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes!
  • Bring photo ID, but leave other personal items at home or with a family member
  • Hood and Gown Rentals: Online preorders can be placed via the Gaspard/AMS 'Build A Grad' portal for these ceremony from January 13 to May 31 at 11:59 pm EST. Same-day ordering will be available, subject to higher prices. Pick-up locations for regalia will be provided when available.

Guests:

  • Doors open 90 minutes before ceremony time
  • There is no assigned seating
  • Graduate procession is scheduled to start 25 minutes before ceremony start time
  • Ceremonies are expected to be approximately 2 hours

Please note: Some of the graduates and guests in attendance suffer from sensitivities due to scented products. We kindly request that you consider refraining from wearing scented products to this event.

Park on Campus and Ride a Kingston Transit (KT) Bus Downtown – Free!

  • Avoid traffic! Come to campus and park for free in any main campus surface lot or dedicated convocation lots
  • Hop on a city bus at any near-campus bus stop and head downtown for free!
    • Please confirm with the driver that you are going to the Leon’s Centre for convocation
  • Hop off at any regular downtown bus stop and walk to the Leon’s Centre
  • Click “Commuter Services” on our online Campus Map for all campus parking lots and city bus stops
  • You can ride any city bus back to your parking spot for free after your ceremony
    • Remember to tell the driver you have been at convocation

Park and Pay Downtown

Please note: there are lane restrictions on the Lasalle Causeway if you are approaching the Leon’s Centre from Hwy 15/2.

Due to capacity and seating limits, graduates who have RSVP'd are limited to three (3) guests.

 

Please note that the deadline to change attendance status and the number of tickets desired in 'Maintain Convocation Details' screen in SOLUS is May 24 for those graduating June 20-23

Additional Guests

  • We do anticipate there will be some day-of empty seats, and we are setting up a “standby-for-seating” process so we can allocate any vacant seats  – 1 per graduate
  • If you choose to bring more than 3 guests, there may be a seat available for a fourth, but this is not guaranteed
  • Additional guests will need to line up for standby seating
  • The standby seating line will form to the right (south) of the main building entrance on Tragically Hip Way
  • Please note, all ceremonies will be livestreamed

Degree, Diploma, and Certificate Pickup 

Parchments for Spring 2023 graduates will be available for pick up after the ceremony when you return your regalia. Photo identification is required.

On-Site Photos

At the Leon’s Centre, after your ceremony, you can return your rental gown and hood right away, or you can meet your family and friends and take photos before returning your gown and hood. 

  • Gowns and hoods must then be returned at the King St. entrance.
