Proclamation

Whereas on Saturday May 9, 2026, the people of Kingston celebrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics at Science Rendezvous Kingston’s IGNITE festival and we invite our visitors to come inside where their curiosity will be sparked, their interest in and enthusiasm for science kindled, and new trails of possibility blazed; and

Whereas Science Rendezvous Kingston is made possible by over 400 volunteers. We thank them for preparing the 60 fascinating demonstrations, experiments, activities and performances to engage us and acknowledge with thanks the many people who have collaborated to make Kingston’s science festival a lighthouse for other sites across Canada; and

Whereas Science Rendezvous Kingston is embraced by the citizens of southeastern Ontario and we recognize with appreciation your generosity in giving us the opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of science and the scientists in our midst; and

Whereas Science Rendezvous Kingston is our highly anticipated, 13th annual, free, family friendly STEM event. We express our gratitude to the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research) at Queen’s University and Slush Puppie Place for making it possible to bring together hundreds of the scientists and researchers from its laboratories, hospitals and clubs as well as many citizen scientists from our community.

Therefore, I, Mayor Bryan Paterson, on behalf of Kingston City Council, hereby proclaim May 9, 2026 as "Science Rendezvous Kingston Day" in the City of Kingston.
