Rui Hou is a PhD student in Sociology. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Nanjing University and a Master's from Tsinghua University(Beijing, China). Hou's research interests include political sociology, sociology of emotions, affect theory and surveillance studies, with recent academic work focused on the emotional/affective labour in Chinese governance. Prior to beginning graduate study at Queen's Univeristy, Hou focused on the Chinese petitioners and the emotional repression of Chinese government.
