The Book Industry After COVID

Julien Lefort-Favreau, Assistant Professor, Department of French Studies, Queen’s University

The effects of COVID on the world of performing arts was widely discussed. However, the book world is also suffering from the effects of the economic and sanitary crisis. If for the moment, book sales seem to be doing well, we are legitimately in a position to ask ourselves whether, in the long term, the current crisis will not have the effect of increasing the inequalities between smaller players and huge corporations in the book industry. Is this a potential threat to freedom of expression and diversity?
