Department of Finance Canada: University Recruitment campaign for 2013-14 - Ministère des Finances du Canada: campagne de recrutement universitaire de 2013-14):

The Department of Finance Canada has launched its annual University Recruitment campaign for 2013-14. As one of the 2013 top employers in the National Capital Region, we are encouraging all university students that are graduating this year with a Master’s degree in economics, finance, public policy/administration, or international studies to apply to the Economist and Policy Analyst stream.

As you may be aware, at Finance Canada we provide leadership in helping the Government of Canada develop the economic and social policies that will improve the standard of living and quality of life of Canadians, their families and their communities. Our six policy branches provide unparalleled opportunities to work on issues like economic and fiscal forecasting, the federal budget, G-20 and G-7 meetings, federal transfers to the provinces and territories, tax policy, and financial sector regulation. We work on challenging policy issues and are able to influence important public policy decisions. We believe that diverse backgrounds, perspectives and approaches are essential to the development of the best public policies. As such, we encourage applications from Aboriginal people, women, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities.

Individuals can apply to the Economist and Policy Analyst stream through the Department of Finance website between October 2 and November 7, 2013. Applications submitted after this deadline or by other means (e.g., mail, fax) will not be considered. For more information on Finance Canada and on how to apply, please visit www.fin.gc.ca/recruit-recrutement/masters-maitrise-eng.asp

Also, please note that senior officers will be visiting university campuses in the fall to give a presentation and to answer questions about career possibilities at Finance Canada. If you would like to find out if or when we will be visiting your campus this year, please contact: UR-RU@fin.gc.ca.

Public Service Campus Ambassador (2012-13 Ambassador at Queen's: Anukriti Palia):

The Deputy Minister Champion Program was intitiated in 2002. It is aimed at strengthening linkages between the Government of Canada and Canadian Universities. As a part of the program, a department head of the Government of Canada is assigned as Deputy Minister Champion as each Canadian university. In September 2012, Malcolm Brown of the Canada Border Services Agency was appointed as Deputy Minister Champion of Queen's.

As a part of this program, the University of Ottawa, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Queen's University all have individual Student Ambassadors available on campus. The Student Ambassador serves as a resource to students on campus about recruitment programs such as the Post-Secondary Recruitment Program (PSR), Recruitment of Policy Leaders (RPL), Research Affiliate Program (RAP) and Federal Summer Work Experience (FSWEP). During the early Fall semesters, Career Services and the Student Ambassador work together to offer workshops on these programs. The Student Ambassador is also available throughout the year during drop-in office hours in the Career Services Information Area (Gordon Hall, 3rd floor) on Mondays from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and by appointment at queens2gov@gmail.com
