During a meeting
You may provide emotional support by being present, being alert to the involved party’s mood, and asking if the involved party needs a break. You may take notes during meetings. You may want to record answers to questions, any future meeting dates, and/or resources mentioned.
Balance of probabilities
Queen’s University Non-Academic Misconduct Proceedings are decided on a “balance of probabilities.” The decision-maker must have enough relevant and credible evidence to persuade them that the Respondent is more probable than not responsible for the alleged violation.
During the resolution
Informal Resolution
Review the Informal Resolution Agreement with the involved party and help them to understand its contents. Informal Resolutions cannot be appealed.
Formal Resolution
Review the Decision Letter. The Case Manager will provide written reasons to support their finding. You may review the decision and assist the party involved in determining whether or not there are grounds to appeal the findings or sanctions.
After the resolution
Once the involved party is notified of the outcome, you may review the information with them. You may help the involved party develop questions that they may have about the outcome and any obligations or responsibilities they have with respect to the completion of outcomes/sanctions. Any questions regarding the outcome should be directed to the Student Conduct Office at studentconductoffice@queensu.ca.
