Sustainable Queen's

The Sustainability Office has implemented an item exchange network, ReUseIt in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. This application provides a vehicle for the campus community to advertise items they no longer need for others to use with no cost attached.  It could be anything from office supplies to furniture to other equipment. Using this site to exchange unwanted items saves money, ensures less waste goes to the landfill and supports our campus culture of sustainability. Anyone with a campus NetID can join.

If you are interested in acquiring furniture please follow the steps below:

Browse the ReUseIt@Queen's online inventory to match your needs with the current stock.
If you find a suitable item, make arrangements for delivery.

Return Policy:

If you are not satisfied with the item after it has been delivered to you it can be returned, however, you will be responsible for the moving fee charged.

If you want to give away items:

Please click the Place Ad link and provide as much information as possible, including at least one photo.

Please mark your item as “sold” if it’s taken by someone instead of deleting it. This allows the information to be exported annually for waste diversion reporting.

Furniture Disposal

Staff and faculty can submit an on-line request form to make arrangements to dispose of broken of unwanted furnishings that have reached their end-of-life. Items are collected on a weekly basis and sent for recycling to the contracted company for responsible and safe disposal of campus assets.

Furniture - Personal Use

In most cases, university-owned items can only be transferred to another university department or office. The decision to release surplus furniture for personal use is based on the following:

  • is there potential for the item to be reused on campus?
  • what is the approximate value of the item (ie. is the item very new or considered an antique)?
  • will the department head approve the request?

After that, a waiver is signed by the staff member and the department head and the items can be removed by the employee. The waiver is available by emailing
