Queen’s Orchestra Concert

The Queen's Orchestra, directed by Wolf Tormann, provides all Queen's students that play orchestral instruments and have auditioned successfully, to be part of an ensemble that prides itself in delivering high quality concerts. The programming for the orchestra consists of classical music and conservative programming as well as innovative shows like the world premiere of 'Tangorium'. The Queen's Orchestra is also exploring and promoting works of indigenous composers and performed last season for the first time a piece by indigenous composer Andrew Balfour. Our upcoming concert will feature the Concerto Aria competition winner from 2019, Sirui Chen, cello, who will perform Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations. The concert will also feature Grieg's Holberg Suite for String Orchestra. Another highlight of the concert will be the performance of Bruckner's Symphony No.1, a piece of epic proportions made possible by a collaboration with Canta Arya School for Strings, a community youth strings group. More information about Canta Arya Strings can be found here: https://cantaaryastrings.com/

Special thanks go out to some members of the Kingston Community that have helped to make this concert possible: Wayne Tindale on Trumpet, Cory van Allen on French Horn, Kim Gudlauski on Trombone, Dorothy Cotton on Bassoon, Roger Finlay and Eric Lee on Double Bass, Caroline Reiss and Dianne Houghton on viola, Lucas Siverns on cello.
