Government and Institutional Relations
The Government and Institutional Relations (GIR) unit manages Queen’s University’s relationships with the federal, provincial, and municipal governments, and provides advice and support to senior administrators and the broader campus on matters related to government relations, public policy, and government advocacy.
The GIR team is also responsible for campus and community relations. This includes sharing regular community updates with our neighbours through the Queen’s Community Newsletter or consultation sessions, and ensuring dialogue and engagement with the community on issues and large events through the Community Partners Working Group.
The Community Partners Working Group includes representatives from the university and student leadership, along with local stakeholders from the City of Kingston, police, hospitals, paramedic services, and other community partners.
The GIR team also manages the University’s relationships with external post-secondary advocacy organizations and is responsible for meeting Queen’s legislated reporting obligations under lobbying legislation.
Reporting to Vice-Principal University Relations, Michael Fraser, Government and Institutional Relations is part of a portfolio that also includes University Communications.
