Update on Facility/Lab Operations

April 15, 2020

In follow up to our previous communication (April 2), decisions by Queen’s University on research-related matters and practices continue to be guided by the advice of local public health officials, and those of the Province of Ontario and the Federal Government, to ensure the health and safety of our community and the communities in which we undertake research.

With the extension of the State of Emergency in Ontario, for the time being, research occurring in labs and facilities remains discontinued. Any essential research activity in labs or facilities that cannot be suspended for this time frame must be reported and approved by the Dean of your Faculty and the Vice-Principal Research. Research conducted remotely is still encouraged.

We understand this remains a challenging situation for our researchers, particularly with the extension of the Declaration of Emergency. The university is working to establish the guidelines and processes to facilitate the return of research requiring Queen’s University facility-based access including limited access to physical items in Queen’s libraries.  As you can appreciate, this is a complex situation with rapidly changing conditions,  and  we will continue to keep you updated.

We appreciate your continued cooperation during this extraordinary situation.
