Mitacs Globalink Research Awards – International travel suspension (COVID-19)

June 3, 2020

While members of the Queen’s research community may be still receiving conditional Notices of Award for Mitacs Globalink Research Awards and internships that support traveling abroad, the COVID-19 suspension of international travel for university sponsored activities is still in place (since Thursday March 12, 2020).

From Thursday, March 12: All university-sponsored travel suspended https://www.queensu.ca/covidinfo/travel

Please consult the FAQ below if you have received a conditional Notice of Award for Mitacs Globalink Research:

Q1. Can I travel or arrange my travel now?

No. Queen’s has suspended international travel for university sponsored activities indefinitely. Although we appreciate the stress this decision may cause, it was made with guidance from Public Health and Global Affairs Canada.

Q2. When do I complete the requested forms (Acceptance form, Code of Conduct form, International Pre-departure form)?

Complete the forms only once your travel plans can be confirmed. Mitacs has communicated the following: "It is not necessary to return the acceptance form, Code of Conduct form or International Pre-Departure form at this time as we are aware of the uncertainties surrounding travel.  Once you have more certainty about travel (and the University travel suspension is lifted), please confirm your project start and end dates.  Please note COVID-19 is evolving and our prior continues to be global public health.”

Mitacs will issue the final (unconditional) Notice of Award after travel dates are confirmed and all forms are completed and returned.

Please note: Decisions by Queen’s University on research-related matters continue to be guided by the key principle of protecting the health and safety of our community and the communities in which we undertake research, by the advice of local public health officials, and by the legislation and guidance of both the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.  If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

University Research Services
