Two down, One heat to go in 3MT 2013
Today in Walter Light Auditorium, participants from Heat 2 of the 2013 Queen's 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) put their presentation skills to the test. Eleven graduate students in all presented their research from fields across the spectrum - physics, health promotion, mechanical & material engineering, civil engineering, education, sociology, exercise physiology, astrophysics, history, psychology and computing. The top 3 and People's Choice winner all go through to the final on Thursday. Congratulations to you all.
Our top 3 and People's Choice today were:
Nida Latif (Psychology) - "Friends or Strangers? Using coordination as a cure in social judgement"
Haroon Malik(Computing) - "Automated Analysis of Load Test"
Laurelle Veloce(Physics) - "Dark Matter Detection with DEAP3600"
People's Choice winner- Frank Secretain (Mechanical & Materials Engineering) - "Multi-frequency Acoustic Breakup of Emboli"

Our Judges today were:
- Janice Mady - Director of Innovation Park at Queen's University
- Dr Robert Knobel - Assistant Professor at the Dept of Physics, Engineering Physics & Astronomy at Queen'
- Kristyn Wallace - Communications specialist at Queen's University and freelance journalist at Kingston EMC newspaper.
The judges were asked to score on three criteria - Communication style, Comprehension and Engagement. Not an easy task so we are very grateful for their support today
