Internal Academic Review
One of the principles outlined in the Senate Internal Academic Review (IAR) Policy is equity whereby “the program should be consistent with the equity goals of the University. Programs must avoid direct, indirect and systemic discrimination, particularly against members of disadvantaged groups.”
In an effort to meet our strategic goals, the IAR (Appendix A: Self-Study Items) lists two requirements of Units in the areas of diversity and equity. They are as follows:
1. Provide information on how the program has addressed the equity goals of the University including the mechanisms by which the program addresses equity issues, including any identified inequities; the most recent equity audit; relevant questions from USAT and from the exit poll.
2. Identify evidence of innovations in dealing with equity issues including, but not limited to, considerations of the groups identified in the Federal Contractor's Program (Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minority groups, and women).
Beyond these two items, equity has been embedded throughout the Internal Academic Review process. Equity considerations are described with more detail in the below guide: How to Include Equity in Your Self-Study. The guide contains an interpretation of equity in each applicable section, as well as sample excerpts from previously completed self-studies that illustrate how a unit/program might consider approaching the section.
