There are hundreds of different options when it comes to using different technology tools. This session will focus on some of the tools available in onQ that you might use in your role as a TA, as well as other technology options to integrate into your teaching.

What is pedagogy? What are instructional strategies and learning outcomes? What is a teaching dossier and do I need one? This workshop covers key concepts and terminology used in teaching and learning at the university level. Aimed at Teaching Fellows, Teaching Assistants, and Post-Doctoral Fellows from all faculties and departments who are interested in effective and inclusive teaching, this workshop will provide exposure to various areas of the teaching and learning space and includes accompanying resources for attendees to expand their understanding through self-study. Join this workshop as the pre-amble to Assessment Practices for University Teaching and Learning and Beyond the Contract: Pedagogy and Developing the Course Syllabus or simply as the first step of your journey into the domain of evidence-based university teaching and learning.

Dr. Davison was recently appointed Associate Dean, Equity and Social Accountability, and is responsible for the development and implementation of activities and initiatives to promote equity, diversity, inclusivity, accessibility, social accountability, and cultural safety in QHS. In this role, Dr. Davison will co-lead the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, along with the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health and Reconciliation, who will be recruited in 2022.

Dr. Davison joined Queen’s University in 2011 and currently serves as Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences with a cross appointment to the Department of Global Development Studies. She is a respected researcher and teacher with local and global partnerships. She has published 112 peer-reviewed papers, and her research focused on child and family health, health equity, equity-oriented research methodologies and community engagement has received nearly $9M in funding.

"Urban Issues are Human Issues: Cities in a post-pandemic world"

Speaker:
Naheed Nenshi, former Mayor of Calgary, Alberta

Naheed K. Nenshi served as Calgary’s mayor for three terms between 2010 and 2021. During his time, Calgary became one of the greatest cities in the world, named as the best city in which to live in the Western Hemisphere.

His leadership saw an unprecedented investment in quality of life including transit, roads, recreation centres and libraries including the magnificent Central Library, while keeping taxes the lowest in Canada. His time as mayor also saw the City of Calgary through four states of emergency, including devastating flooding in 2013 floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also became an international voice on urban issues, with audiences across Canada and around the world, including the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Nenshi was awarded the World Mayor Prize as the best mayor in the world in 2014 by The City Mayors Foundation. He also has received the President’s Award from the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Humanitarian Award from the Canadian Psychological Association for his contribution to community mental health. Maclean’s magazine once called him the second-most influential person in Canada, after the Prime Minister.
