Queen's University

School of Graduate Studies

Thank you, Goodbye and Best Wishes

janicedeakin.jpgThe School of Graduate Studies bids a fond farewell to Dr. Janice Deakin, Vice-Provost and Dean. Dr. Deakin, following 24 years of service to Queen's University, will assume the role of Vice President (Academic) at the University of Western Ontario on August 1, 2010.

During her tenure as Vice-Provost and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Dr. Deakin worked tirelessly to raise the University's profile with government ministries and organizations, including the Ontario Council of Graduate Studies, Canadian Association for Graduate Studies and the Council of Graduate Schools. Under her leadership and through her strong support for graduate students, their numbers at Queen's grew by nearly 800 new students, new graduate programs were developed, new international agreements were established and funding support increases for international graduate students were realized. She also supported the creation and growth of Expanding Horizons, a professional development series in support of graduate and professional students.

Dr. Deakin's dynamic, energetic, yet down-to-earth and approachable personality facilitated positive relationships with many students, staff, faculty and fellow administrators over the years. Her presence at Queen's University will be greatly missed.

Interim Vice-Provost Brenda Brouwer, Associate Deans David Rappaport and Kim McAuley, the Directors and Staff at the School of Graduate Studies extend their very best wishes to Dr. Deakin as she embarks on the next stage of her remarkable career.
