Queen’s University recently launched AI-powered chatbots designed to improve access to information and resources across the campus community. These chatbots leverage advanced Large Language Models (LLMs), AI programs trained on massive data sets to understand, generate, and summarize human language. The aim is to assist users in multiple languages (where available), provide quick answers from select university websites and databases, and offer 24/7 availability.
Using Chatbots
At Queen’s, chatbots are designed to query a selected set of existing university databases and websites for information based on a user-generated prompt or question. Think of it like an advanced Google search specific to Queen’s.
To get started, type your question into the chat box. That’s it! You can frame your question the same way you would to a human assistant.
Disclaimers
LLMs do not reason the way humans do; they predict text based on patterns in data, not on real comprehension or grounded knowledge. Their design leaves room for mistakes.
Chatbots at Queen’s generate AI-produced responses that may contain inaccuracies. Results should be independently reviewed before being relied upon.
If the chatbot cannot find content that matches your prompt, it will answer with “ I'm sorry, I was not able to find the information you were looking for.”
If the chatbot doesn’t understand your question, try rephrasing it or using simpler language. If the chatbot still cannot understand your question, consider reaching out to the chatbot’s department via the contact information on their website.
Please do not share personal information such as personal identifiers, passwords, social insurance numbers, or credit card details with the chatbot.
Additionally, Queen’s chatbots are not equipped to handle emergencies or provide academic, legal, medical, mental health, or any other kind of advice or support. Please contact the appropriate university resources or external authorities as needed.
Privacy
Any information shared with Queen’s chatbots is encrypted and handled according to our privacy policy. Queen’s does not share your data with third parties.
Your NetID may be collected in accordance with Queen’s University’s Privacy Policy for up to 12 months. Data remains securely stored within Queen's digital domain with limited access for safety and administrative purposes as per the authorized access procedure.
Feedback
We want to hear about your experience.
During the chat, you can use the thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons on specific responses. Additionally, at the end of the chat session, you'll see a prompt to provide feedback about your chat. Your input helps the chatbot improve!
If you have any concerns about the operation of this chatbot or any of its responses, please get in touch with the chatbot's department using the contact info for that department.
