Queen’s is taking a measured and values-guided approach to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Our community is exploring where AI can strengthen teaching, learning, research, and operations. The Strategic AI Framework supports this work by outlining shared expectations for thoughtful and responsible adoption.
The framework describes a developing governance structure that coordinates AI exploration and integration across academic and operational areas. It will continue to evolve through community collaboration as needs, opportunities, and risks change over time. Insights gathered through community consultation, including recent survey results, help guide how we support students, faculty, and staff with vetted tools, practical guidance, and clarity on appropriate use.
As part of the ongoing dialogue shaping Queen’s work with artificial intelligence, more than 2,200 faculty, staff, and students contributed to a generative AI needs assessment carried out over the second half of 2025 that highlights community priorities and provides evidence-based direction for next steps.
Institutional AI Pillars
Queen’s approach to artificial intelligence is grounded in the university’s core values. To support thoughtful adoption, we have identified six guiding pillars that reflect truth, responsibility, respect, freedom, and well-being.
