Employment Relations Studies

Employment relations, often used interchangeably with the term industrial relations, is a multi-disciplinary field of study that encompasses the relationship between people, employers, unions, governments, and law. The study of employment relations and the education of future employment relations professionals ensures that - as a society - we are setting workplace standards, negotiating collective agreements, protecting human rights, and ensuring pay equity. It is only through healthy employment relations that we can create a strong and sustainable economy - and improve the quality of life for all Canadians.

Undergraduate Programs

Students will learn about contemporary workplace issues and develop in-demand skills that can be applied across a number of different fields.  Pair a Minor in Employment Relations with a Major in any other discipline or choose a Certificate in Employment Relations.

Graduate Programs

Queen’s Master of Industrial Relations (MIR) graduates provide leadership, cutting-edge practice and policy direction to Canada’s leading corporations, unions, non-profit organizations and governments. We offer both full-time and professional part-time MIR programs. Working professionals can complete the MIR degree through a combination of remote and in-person classes.
