Codd, Alfred Evelyn (1882-1917)

Alfred Evelyn Codd was a professor during the First World War.

Appointed Professor of Latin in 1913, Codd traveled from Britain to take up his position. However, soon after his arrival he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He experienced a temporary recovery, but was compelled to resign in the spring of 1917 due to illness.

Codd died of tuberculosis October 5, 1917 at the age of 33. His obituary in the Whig noted that in 1915 Codd "was offered a Latin chair in England, but felt that his place was with Queen's."

He is buried in the Cataraqui Cemetery. There is no stone marking Codd's grave, presumably due to the turbulent times in which he died.
