Are you interested in studying how northern landscapes recover from intensive mining pollution?

We are looking for a student that is interested in spending a considerable amount of time based in Yellowknife to undertake field work and engage with community partners.  The broad objective of this project is to undertake field studies to explore terrestrial runoff processes that influence the recovery of the landscape near Yellowknife (a region contaminated by stack emissions from the Giant Mine).  We are specifically interested in how terrestrial runoff processes will be affected by climate change and unusual or severe weather events, and how this will affect the fate and transport of contaminants in surface waters.  This project is ideally suited for a MSc candidate starting in September 2022.  The project is funded through the NWT Cumulative Impact Monitoring Program.  For more information or to apply contact Dr. Melissa Lafreniere (Melissa.lafreniere@queensu.ca) or Dr. Mike Palmer (mpalmer@auroracollege.nt.ca).
