Arabic language classes will be offered for the first time this fall.
ARAB 100 is as an introduction to Modern Standard Arabic, the native literary language of nearly two hundred million Arabs and the language of approximately one billion Muslims around the world.
The establishment of an Arabic language and culture course is the first step taken by faculty to develop a new interdisciplinary program and research centre on Islam and multicultural societies.
The program and research centre will be the first of its kind in North America, and will emphasize the connections between the history of religious and ethnic diversity in traditionally Islamic societies and the modern experience of Muslim minority communities in Europe and North America.
Second and third year levels of Arabic language along with new courses in Arab literature and culture will be offered over the next several years.
