Queen’s University is launching a new Academic Industry Meeting Day (AIMDay™) initiative centred around the theme of mobility. Queen’s is partnering with Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Ottawa, and Hub350 to engage researchers with external organizations interested in exploring collaborations to address challenges and pursue opportunities. The event will be held on October 4, 2022.

AIMDay™ Mobility will explore the future of mobility in its varied contexts – from advanced transportation to human health and beyond. The need to understand mobility trends, and opportunities to utilize advanced technology to create viable mobility solutions, is quickly mounting in order to reduce impacts on our environment, support next generation transportation modalities, have better outcomes for displaced communities, increase safety and security, and enhance personal mobility including supporting those with impaired mobility.AIMDay poster

Established in 2008 at Uppsala University, Sweden, AIMday™ is an internationally recognized methodology to tackle questions around a central theme. Implemented and refined by leading universities around the world, this highly effective program enables university-based researchers and external organizations to connect and bring world-class research to life. By matching organizations’ need for new knowledge with academic expertise, AIMday™ brings understanding and new perspectives to real-world problems. Queen’s partnered with Toronto Metropolitan University to co-host and deliver AIMday™ Future of Livable Cities on November 25, 2021. As a part of AIMday™ Future of Livable Cities, eight organizations and 48 faculty members (31% Queen’s) participated. Highlights included two multi-institutional collaborative initiatives which are undergoing development.

Participating in AIMday™ is free for both researchers and organizations. For researchers, AIMday™ presents a great opportunity to learn how their projects and research can be applied to address current needs. For organizations, AIMday™ provides a forum to submit questions of interest and to discuss these questions with researchers from the participating universities. Once organizations have submitted their queries, and the AIMday™ planning committee curates the input, researchers will be provided with the list of planned questions/challenges and be invited to register for the discussions that align with their research interests. Through the event they will have the opportunity to network with participating organizations and other researchers who may bring different perspectives and complimentary skill-sets to the challenges posed.

Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation is leading the organization of the AIMday™ Mobility event.

“One of our key mandates is to create and facilitate opportunities for researchers to connect with potential partners and to pursue collaboration interests,” says Janice Mady, Director of Research and Innovation Partnerships. “Providing researchers and industry with a forum to kickstart conversations on topics of mutual interest is an important opportunity that can identify potential solutions, inform and advance research, and showcase the expertise of our researchers.”
