Meet the Research Team

Dr. Imaan Bayoumi

Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Bayoumi is the Director of the Centre for Studies in Primary Care, which is the research arm of the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University. She is also an Assistant Professor in Family Medicine and an Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) Fellow. Her research interests include social determinants of children’s health with a focus on family income and developmental assessment in young children. Her work focuses on evaluating interventions that can improve social determinants of health, including screening mechanisms to improve integration of social services with health services, health justice partnerships, and other innovations. Dr. Bayoumi’s current research projects include Connecting Families and I-CREAte.  

Dr. Patricia Li

Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Li is a clinician-scientist at the Centre for Health Outcomes Research at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McGill University and a general pediatrician at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Her research interests include the organization and delivery of health services to children, with a focus on primary, preventative, and hospital care, as well as on health equity. Dr. Li’s current research projects include Pediatric Outcomes imProvement through COordination of Research Networks (POPCORN), Accelerating Clinical Trials (ACT), and Cow’s Milk Fat Obesity pRevention Trial (CoMFORT).  

Kimberley McFadden, PhD

Research Associate

Kimberley completed her undergraduate degree in Health Studies at Queen’s University and worked as a research assistant in the Performance Lab for the Advancement of Youth in Sport. She travelled overseas to complete her Master’s of Public Health at St. Mary’s University in Twickenham, UK. Upon her return to Canada, she continued with her jet-setting ways and moved out west to pursue her PhD in Exercise Psychology and Behavioural Medicine at the University of Alberta. Kimberley now works at the Centre for Studies in Primary Care within the Department of Family Medicine at Queen's University, where she brings her expertise in survey development, qualitative methods, quantitative and qualitative data analyses, scientific writing, and knowledge translation.

 

Helen Valkanas, MPH

Research Assistant

Born and raised in Montreal, Helen completed her undergraduate degree in Behavioural Neuroscience at Concordia University, completing her research thesis in the Stress and Developmental Psychopathology Lab. After moving to Ontario to complete her Master’s of Public Health at Queen’s University, she continued to pursue opportunities that applied her interest in health outcomes, health services research, and pediatrics. Helen currently works in the Child Health and Human Development Program at the Research Institute of McGill University Health Centre. Her experience with EMR data, child health assessment tools, data analysis, and knowledge dissemination makes her a key part of the research team.

Alan Dimitriev, MSc

Data Analyst

Alan obtained his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Computing from Queen's University in 2021. He continued his education at Queen's University, completing a Master's of Computing in 2023 under the co-supervision of Dr. Amber Simpson and Dr. Gane Wong (University of Alberta). His thesis focused on validating loss-of-function genetic variants that conferred protection against ischemic heart disease. Alan has previously worked for the Ontario Ministry of Health and has conducted research utilizing the Ontario Health Data Platform to analyze the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the prescribing patterns of opioids. Currently, Alan serves as a Data Scientist at the Centre for Health Innovation. 

Isabella Mignacca

MSc Student

Isabella completed her undergraduate degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University. She is currently working on a Master’s of Science in the Department of Family Medicine at McGill University. Isabella’s thesis will involve quantitative analyses of EMR data to determine the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic impacted primary care for young children and how any delays in receiving care affected patients' growth and development.
