Welcome to the Lab

The research in the Speech Perception and Production Laboratory focuses on the study of communication, and the neural basis of language.

Our perception research examines the auditory and visual information available in face-to-face communication. In particular, we investigate the mechanisms underlying audiovisual integration, such as the McGurk Effect. We also study the pattern of eye movements during audiovisual speech perception.

Our speech production research focuses on the motor control of oral movement. Recently, we have examined the role that auditory feedback plays in the control of articulation.

As part of our work in both production and perception, we are interested in facial animation. We are currently working on animation driven by motion capture, as well as a more physiological animation model, based on data from electromyographic recordings.
