The School of Policy Studies is saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and former colleague Hugh Winsor, O.C.

Hugh was an Adjunct Professor in the School of Policy Studies in the early 2000s where he taught a popular course on media and public policy.

One of Canada’s most prominent and respected journalists and a member of the Ottawa Press Gallery for over forty years, Hugh spent most of his career at the Globe and Mail, retiring in 2005. He also worked at CBC Television’s The Journal and was the Canadian Correspondent for the British newspaper The Independent. A founding Director of the North-South Institute, Hugh was a member of the Board of Oxfam Canada.

An enthusiastic Queen’s man through and through, Hugh graduated in Arts (1964) and received the Agnes Benidickson Award, the highest tribute given by the Ottawa Branch of the Queen's University Alumni Association, presented to an individual for distinguished service to Queen’s and Canada.

Our sincere condolences go to Hugh’s family.
