Why Study Sociology at Queen's?
Sociology examines how the social world is shaped and social life is coordinated. We study meaningful patterns of interaction at every level, from interpersonal and group relationships to global structures of power and inequality. Sociology enables us to understand how people as members of socio-demographic groupings are systematically privileged or disadvantaged. It examines how various social forces produce social order and social change and in so doing influence what we do and how we think.
Sociology at Queen’s is unique in its interdisciplinary focus on the most pressing social problems of our time, with cutting-edge teaching and research in the fields of power, inequalities and social justice, media and technology, criminology and socio-legal systems.
Walls to Bridges
Walls to Bridges is an experiential learning course that brings together students from Queen’s University (“outside students”) and students from a local federal prison (“inside students”).
Through collaborative learning, participants engage with both lived experience and academic scholarship to examine the complexities of criminalization and punishment.
