Research in Policy Studies

The School of Policy Studies contributes significantly to the body of knowledge around critical policy issues for Canada and globally. Faculty members have published more than 180 books on the School’s imprint with McGill/Queen’s University Press, in addition to dozens of working papers, articles and other publications. Much of this work comes from our affiliated research centres and institutes, including:

 

Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP)

Established in 1975, the Centre's mandate is to conduct research in matters of national and international security, and international relations.  It supports teaching in the field of security and defence, and through its publications and activities of its members, contributes to public debate on Canadian foreign and defence policy, and issues of international peace and security.

Institute of Intergovernmental Relations (IIGR)

The Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queen's University is Canada's premier university-based centre for research on all aspects of federalism and intergovernmental relations, both in Canada and in countries around the world. The Institute is interdisciplinary in orientation, drawing on the latest research in political science, economics, philosophy, law, and sociology.

Multiculturalism Policy Index (MCP)

The Multiculturalism Policy Index is a scholarly research project that monitors the evolution of multiculturalism policies in 21 Western democracies. The project is designed to provide information about multiculturalism policies in a standardized format that aids comparative research and contributes to the understanding of state-minority relations.

Queen's Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy (QIEEP)

By encouraging and capitalizing on multi-disciplinary research surrounding present and future energy needs, QIEEP's mission "is to generate pragmatic advice on energy and environmental policy that is relevant to the public and to governments at all levels."
