High School Transfer Credits

International Baccalauréat (IB): Health Sciences

Queen's University may grant Transfer Credits to students coming from a number of different programs. Transfer credit assessment varies depending on the courses or curriculum that the student has completed, the student's scores/grades achieved in that program, the Queen's program that the student is entering, and the student's year of entry to Queen's. Students entering into their first year of study at Queen’s and who have previously taken courses during high school that may be eligible for transfer credit must apply for credit no later than the end of fall term of their first year. Eligible students who do not submit a transfer credit request (and all supporting documents) by the end of first term are considered to have declined credit. Transfer credit requests submitted after fall term of the student’s first year will not be assessed.

Transfer credit assessment varies depending on:

  • the courses and curriculum that the student has completed
  • the student's scores/grades achieved in that program
  • the Queen's program that the student is entering
  • the student's year of entry to Queen's

See also Transfer Credit Policies.

Students are eligible to receive a maximum of 18.0 transfer credit units for Higher Level IB courses completed with a final grade of 5 or greater.

Undergraduate Admission will assess a student's IB courses to determine whether or not transfer credits will be granted. In order to have these courses assessed, students must do one of the following once their final IB results are available:

  • Make a request through the IBO that their results be made available to Queen's online. This can be done through the IBO website.
  • Request that the IBO send an official copy of their results to Undergraduate Admission.

Undergraduate Admission will not take either of these actions on a student's behalf.

Some Higher Level subjects have a direct equivalent and will replace a specific course at Queen's in a student's degree plan. For those Higher Level subjects which do not have a direct equivalent at Queen’s, an unspecified or "elective" credit is granted. These elective credits may be counted towards the completion of a degree plan, but they do not replace other courses at Queen’s.

There are a number of Higher Level courses for which Queen's does not grant a transfer credit, regardless of a student's score. Some of those courses include English A, English B, Business Management, Design and Technology, Theatre, Visual Art and World Religions. Also, no credit is granted for Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay.

Exclusion is defined as a list of two or more courses that are considered similar enough that credit will only be given for a defined subset of courses from that list. Usually, holding credit for an excluded course(s) will prevent registration in the remaining courses on the list.
