Spanish and Italian were first taught at Queen's in the early 20th century in the former Department of Romance Languages. The Department of Spanish and Italian was formed in 1920 under the guidance of Professor J.H. Brovedani, who remained head of the department until 1949.
The department offers a comprehensive range of courses in the language, literature, and culture of Spain, Latin America, and Italy.
The two language studies are now a part of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
