The reading will be heavy at times, so be prepared to devote time to reading the novels if you take this course. All students are required to purchase the PRINT edition of the assigned books.

This course will focus on the modern and contemporary novel, grouping the year into three thematic sections that will explore, in turn, the historical novel, the metafictional novel and the coming of age novel. Some of the authors we will study include: J. M. Coetzee, Claire Keegan, John Fowles, Graeme Macrae Burnett, Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin, Marilynn Robinson, and Sarah Moss.
