Description:

Join Equity and Accessibility Services from the Human Rights and Equity Office (HREO) for the first Accessibility Café of the 2025-2026 academic year, held in partnership with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII). This informal session invites participants to reflect on the ideas shared by Dr. Rheanna Robinson in her talk “Disability Needs to Be Decolonized: How Indigenous Knowledges Can Inform Inclusive Pedagogies of Practice.”

Co-Facilitators: Roberta Bighetty, Misty Underwood and Al Doxtator from the OII

By rotating through three discussion stations, participants will explore colonial legacies in accessibility, the role of Indigenous knowledges in inclusive pedagogy, and pathways for institutional change at Queen’s.

If participants prefer to attend online, they will discuss the same themes in breakout rooms and record their insights and discussion on a Miro board.

The Café is open to all members of the Queen’s community and will be offered in-person and via Zoom.

Accessibility Cafés are informal, discussion-based gatherings hosted by the Human Rights and Equity Office (HREO).

Each Café is designed to extend and deepen the conversations sparked by the Accessibility First Speaker Series. These sessions invite members of the Queen’s community to reflect on the themes of each Speaker Series event, engage with shared resources, and explore how those ideas can be applied within the Queen’s context
