Description:

Please join us on Saturday, March 16th for an all day (10:00am-2:00pm) drop-in Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at Union Gallery. This event is one of dozens of programs happening across the world aimed at improving coverage of women and LGBTQI2-S people in the arts on Wikipedia.

WHY: According to recent statistics, less than 10% of Wikipedia contributors identify as female. While the reasons for the gender gap are debatable, the outcome is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation, creating imbalance in this increasingly important repository of shared knowledge. Fixing this gap will take a group effort––people of all gender expressions are encouraged to attend this event!

HOW: No experience or expertise is necessary! Tutorials will be held throughout the day for beginner Wikipedians, and there will be plenty of reference materials on hand. You may come with a topic in mind, but, if you don’t, there will be a list of topics that need articles and existing articles that need editing.

Please bring your own laptop (and power-cord) if you have one. Participants are encouraged to create a Wikipedia account before the event.

This event is organized by the Department of Art History and Union Gallery
