Brave New Workplace: Designing Productive, Healthy, and Safe Organizations presented by Julian Barling

Leadership expert Julian Barling, Distinguished University Professor and Borden Chair of Leadership at Smith School of Business, covers what every leader needs to know to improve the workplace.

After a period of tremendous upheaval, organizations are now confronting the question: What do productive, healthy, and safe organizations really look like? Synthesizing almost a century of research, Prof. Barling identifies seven elements that are key to building an exceptional workplace in which all its members flourish: high quality leadership, autonomy, belonging, fairness, growth, meaning, and safety. Throughout the talk, Prof Barling touches on issues affecting today's organizations such as working through crises, like the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact of gender differences on people's experiences in the workplace. Barling illustrates that small changes make a big difference ―perhaps especially during the most trying times―and that effective, evidenced-based interventions can help guide us to productive, healthy, and safe, work. Questions and discussion will be invited at the end of the talk.
