Description:

The AFMC's Response to Opioid Crisis project is developing a Community of Practice for the Response to Opioids PGME/CPD Curriculum. As part of this Community of Practice, AFMC is offering a series of free webinars linked to the Curriculum topics. The goal is to help develop a Community of Practice network to support education and mentorship, sharing of best practices in the management of cases for residents and practicing physicians; and for persons with lived and living experience with pain, substance use and addiction. Anyone can join this Community of Practice and there is no fee to join. 

Webinar 5 - Chronic Pain and the Elderly

Speaker: David Lussier, MD, FRCPC, Associate Professor at University of Montreal, Adjunct Professor at McGill University 

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Establish appropriate management plans for chronic pain and/or substance use disorders and employ evidence-based treatment approaches that are based on the individuals’ unique needs and age appropriate.
  2. Explore prescribing cascades in the elderly while considering the role of co-morbidities, compounding risks of polypharmacy, and other risks associated with this population.
  3. Develop a proactive and preventive approach for the early treatment of painful conditions at risk for becoming chronic.
