Dr. Sarah de Leeuw on Empowering Others: Carving Spaces in the Academy (online)

Monday, January 30, 2023
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Dr. Sarah de Leeuw on empowering others.

This online Zoom lecture series centres speakers' diverse experiences navigating the challenging world of academia, finding opportunities within and beyond postsecondary institutions, and carving space for themselves and others in their fields.

Dr. de Leeuw is a multidisciplinary feminist anticolonial scholar, activist, and writer studying why some people and places have better health than others. A Canada Research Chair appointed in 2017 to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars Artists and Scientists, de Leeuw documents how creative arts and humanities in medicine and healthcare hold potential for disrupting coloniality and activating strength-based solutions to health inequities.

The lecture series is available in an accessible format or with appropriate communication supports upon request. Please contact us by email at

This event is funded by York University's Liberal Arts and Professional Studies' Global & Community Engagement Events and Outreach Fund.
