Where:

Room: B176 Lecture Theatre

Description:

Setting and maintaining boundaries can be challenging and uncomfortable, especially when we hold care or support roles. Explore strategies and reflect on your own unique situations to find ways to support your own needs, while respecting responsibilities and others with kindness and care.

There are often signs that our boundaries are being challenged, which can add to stress, frustration, guilt, and worry. Whether we are striving to set and maintain a boundary with ourselves or others, striking the right balance can feel like a tightrope walk. When we understand our reasons for setting boundaries in the first place and view boundary-setting more as a practice, the better equipped we are to create space for a different relationship with ourselves and others.

This one hour psycho-educational workshop aims to:

  • Normalize the challenges and fears that come with boundary-setting and maintaining
  • Explore how identifying values can help guide the journey of boundary-setting
  • Explore ways to communicate boundaries clearly and with kindness
  • Provide practical strategies to support oneself during, and after, expressing a boundary
  • Invite compassion for ourselves and others when navigating complex conversations

The workshop is meant to disseminate information and is not a space designed for group processing, though questions and discussion will be welcome. Personal reflection exercises and sharing with others may be offered, but are all optional.
