Description:

The AFMC's Response to Opioid Crisis project is developing a Community of Practice for the Response to Opioids PGME/CPD Curriculum. As part of this Community of Practice, AFMC is offering a series of free webinars linked to the Curriculum topics. The goal is to help develop a Community of Practice network to support education and mentorship, sharing of best practices in the management of cases for residents and practicing physicians; and for persons with lived and living experience with pain, substance use and addiction. Anyone can join this Community of Practice and there is no fee to join.

Speakers: Lydia Hatcher, MD, CCFP, FCFP, CHE, D-CAPM, Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine, McMaster University; Medical Inspector, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the many settings and circumstances that a pain patient and their care provider might encounter.
  2. Assess the complex medical needs of chronic pain patients including concurrent substance use disorders.
  3. Discuss legal, social, and bioethical issues and their implications in in the above settings.
