Mariela Libedinsky on Empowering Others: Carving Spaces in the Academy (online)

When:
Monday, October 25, 2021
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Where:
Description:

Lecture 2: Mariela Libedinsky

This online Zoom lecture series centres speakers' diverse experiences navigating the challenging world of academia, finding opportunities within and beyond postsecondary institutions, and carving space for themselves and others in their fields. By creating space for balanced representation and illuminating diverse lived realities in academia and beyond, we might all be empowered to reflect on and share our own journeys, and be better equipped to support each other in the process.

Our second speaker, Mariela Libedinsky, will be speaking about solidarity and community building within and beyond academia. Mariela used to work in the legal field but after losing her office job due to COVID, she has undergone a major personal and professional shift and she is now dedicated to issues of food security and urban farming. Her participation with The People’s Pantry Toronto connected her with a huge mutual aid network of activists, organizers, knowledge keepers, and growers that helped propel this change. She is currently a Community Garden Assistant with FoodShare.

This event is supported by Queen’s Inclusive Community Fund. The lecture series is available in an accessible format or with appropriate communication supports upon request. Please contact us by email at empoweringothers.eo@gmail.com
