The PhD-Community Initiative brings together PhD students from different programs of study into inter-disciplinary teams of 3 to 5 members, partnering them with community organizations to assist in addressing a particular issue or challenge of importance to them.  This year, six teams worked with a diverse group of partners, including the City of Kingston, Elginburg Public School, Little Forest Kingston, the Royal Kingston Curling Club, Ottawa-based ABLE2, and the School of Graduate Studies. Projects ranged from an examination of the impact of forest school programs on children, to a toolkit for students to measure climate resilience in their community, and to volunteer recruitment and community engagement strategies.
Our students have demonstrated talent, energy, and enthusiasm to create positive change by applying the skills and knowledge gained in graduate studies to addressing challenges beyond the academic arena.
