Description:

Part 1: Film: “HEBREO: THE SEARCH FOR SALOMONE ROSSI”

Part 2: Performance of his Italian madrigals, instrumental pieces and Hebrew prayers.

In the late Renaissance, at the height of Mantua’s artistic splendour, a young Jewish violinist Salomone Rossi burst through the barriers of discrimination and became one of the most renowned composers and performers at the court of the Gonzaga dukes. In 1622, he revolutionized Jewish music with his Songs of Solomon, the first collection ever of originally composed music for Hebrew psalms and prayers. Founded in Israel, the male vocal ensemble Profeti della Quinta (“Prophets of the Perfect Fifth”) aims to create vivid and expressive performances of music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Founded in the Galilee region of Israel by Elam Rotem, the ensemble is currently based in Basel, Switzerland.
