The Vice-Principal Research portfolio in collaboration with Open Scholarship Services proudly presents, Research Data Management @ Queen’s.

While research data management (RDM) has always been a vital component of the research lifecycle, it has become even more important since the release of the Tri-Agency’s policy on Research Data Management in early 2021. 

The agencies “believe that research data collected through the use of public funds should be responsibly and securely managed and be, where ethical, legal and commercial obligations allow, available for reuse by others.” In order for researchers to accomplish these important objectives, the Tri-Agency has implemented three specific requirements:

1. By March 2023, the creation of an institutional RDM strategy by each post-secondary institution and research hospital eligible to administer Tri-Agency funds. 
2. Starting in spring 2022, the inclusion of data management plans (DMPs) in applications for certain Tri-Agency grants.
3. Beginning after March 2023, the deposit of research data, metadata, and code into a digital repository at the time of research publication (where allowed, and in accordance with the FAIR principles and the standards of the discipline).
