Description:

Please join us for the presentation entitled 'The Cognitive and Emotional Responses of Pregnant Women to Climate Change and Relationship to Mental Well-being', presented by Gabriella Moraes Rae, BHSc,  Helen Ngozichukwuka Obilor, RN, PhD, Shahirose Sadrudin Premji, RN, BSc, BScN, MScN, PhD, FAAN, FCAN. This event is free, and open to all.

Climate change can elicit a range of reactions in human beings and increase the prevalence of mental health conditions worldwide, with pregnant people being disproportionately affected. However, little is known about how climate change shapes the mental health of pregnant people. More research studies are needed to understand how climate change affects the mental health of pregnant people and unpack its intersectional nature, as emerging evidence has shown its interplay with socioeconomic status, gender, race, and sexuality and its ability to compound existing inequalities. To address this gap, Dr. Shahirose Sadrudin Premji, Gabriella Moraes Rae and Dr. Helen Obilor are working on a research study that will help gain insight into the relationship between pregnant people’s perception of climate change and their emotional responses to climate change and overall mental well-being in Canada. The study findings could enhance healthcare providers’ climate literacy and the development of programs to support pregnant women distraught over the climate crisis.
