Sixth Annual Northern Research Symposium at Queen’s University

Queen’s University has a large community of researchers involved with the study of northern issues from various disciplines. This Symposium aims to bring together students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates, and professors for a day of presentations, open dialogue & networking.

If you currently are, or would like to be working on northern-related research, we encourage your participation. We encourage students, both graduate and undergraduate, to submit abstracts both for posters and oral presentations. Researchers new to Queen’s, or new to Northern research, are also encouraged to participate. Information regarding registration and abstract submission:  Refreshments and lunch will be provided to all who register.

Abstract submission deadline: March 19th                  Registration deadline: March 26th

We are pleased to be joined by three distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Dr. Elyn Humphreys, (Geography and Environmental Studies, Carleton University): “Have tundra ecosystems become net sources of carbon dioxide?”
  • Dr. Daniel Fortier (Department of Geography, Université de Montréal): "permafrost dynamics, mitigation techniques and adaptation."
  • Dr. Valerie Michaelson (Faculty of Public Health Sciences and School of Religion, Queen’s University): “Arctic research, reconciliation and the connections that make us human.”
