SNID Talk "Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program: Race and Resistance”

Description:

The year 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the migrant farmworker program in Canada. Justicia for Migrant Workers (J4MW) marks this year with the Harvesting Freedom Campaign, a call on the Canadian government to allow migrant farm workers in Canada to access Permanent Immigration Status. The Campaign includes a Caravan from Leamington to Ottawa in time for Thanksgiving season on October 2nd and 3rd.  The Caravan will be stopping in Kingston September 28 - Sept 29.  At the SNID talk on September 29th, Chris Ramsaroop and members of the Harvesting Freedom Caravan will discuss the current campaign in light of the history of Migrant farm-workers in Canada.

There will be a screening of Migrant Dreams (2016) a documentary by award-winning film maker Mik Soon Lee on September 28th.  This film features the struggles of a group of migrant farmworkers in Ontario who embark on a campaign of resistance. Details TBA.
