Workshop to Combat Islamophobia

This workshop, facilitated by the National Council of Canadian Muslims. will explore the dynamics of Islamophobia in Canada and the ways it manifests on campus. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to accommodate the needs of Muslim students on campus and how to provide supports to students facing discrimination.
The training will cover:
• Foundational understating of Islam and Muslims in Canada
• Islamophobia on campus – understanding student and staff experience in classrooms and on university campuses across Canada.
• Religious Accommodations – understanding the responsibilities to accommodate and how to assist students in accommodation requests.
• Surveillance and policing – understanding the pressure students may face with surveillance and how-to best support students when they ask for assistance, resources, etc.
The workshop is open to faculty and staff across Queen's University and is supported by the Inclusive Community Fund.
