Description:

This year’s annual Feminist Legal Studies Queen’s International Women's Day Conference will take place on March 13 & 14, 2026, in hybrid format at Robert Sutherland Hall. The conference theme will focus on disability issues of relevance to women through an intersectionality lens. This year’s conference will allow for dedicated treatment of disability related topics by scholars from within Canada and across the world. It will advance critical thinking and analysis from multi-and interdisciplinary perspectives towards the realization of national and constitutional rights to equality and create a forum for considering comparative approaches to disability equality and non-discrimination.

This year, our keynote speaker will be Professor Anna Lawson, our Principal’s Development Fund Visiting Scholar. Professor Anna Lawson has worked as a Professor of Law in the School of Law at the University of Leeds and is a British legal scholar specialising in comparative disability law and policy. She is committed to tackling the persistent forms of disadvantage and exclusion experienced by disabled persons all over the world. She brings a unique ability to bridge legal analysis, policy development, and lived experience, a quality that positions her as a transformative figure in shaping inclusive societies.

This event is a part of Queen’s University’s participation in #SDGMonthCanada, a nation-wide commitment to mobilizing the SDGs across campuses.
