Kathina begins and First Day of Sukkot

Description:

(October 10 - November 6) During the month after the rainy season retreat, lay people may offer the Kathina-robe as part of the general alms-giving ceremony. (Therav_da) Religious accommodation for special worship may be required for a specified period during this month-long observance. -----

(October 10 - 16) A pilgrimage feast and a time of thanksgiving, it celebrates GodÕs presence in creation and among the Jewish people. Religious accommodation may be required for this observance/holy day. Suspension of work/classes may be requested by observant. Accommodation for Jewish Reform: eve of Sukkot + first day: non-working; Accommodation for Jewish Orthodox: eve of Sukkot + first two days: non-working.
